Het Blad van de Bomen

In 2009 I started my company “Het blad van de bomen”. In Dutch ‘blad’ has two meanings namely ‘leaf’ and ‘table-top’,  ‘bomen’ means ‘trees’.So the translation could be “The table-top of the trees”.

I am Marcelle van der Leeuw and I make coffee tables and side-tables and other small furniture. I am fascinated by wood and I always try to combine different kinds of timber in an attractive form and design. In my tables I always use at least two types of wood, but often the tables exist of far more types of wood. Some tables are completely made out of end grain stock and in this way show an extensive array of colours and lines. In other tables I use  stock in different colours which is cut along the grain.  Of course tables also have legs and as with the tops, the under-frames are different in every table.

In all tables I try to combine art design and crafts.

I was educated for three years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zwolle, the Netherlands, and I have learned the crafts of a local cabinetmaker
